THE GREAT FULL GIRL’S RECIPE TIPS FOR VEGAN FRENCH TOAST:

What kind of bread should I use for Vegan French Toast?

French toast 4.jpg

Many of the traditional breads used for french toast are not vegan friendly like challah or brioche because they contain chicken eggs or cows milk. I recommend using any thick bread from the bakery section of your grocery store, just be sure to read the ingredients list to ensure no eggs, milk, or honey (if you’re an ethical vegan) are included in the dough. For this recipe I used Italian Pugliese bread I picked up at Whole Foods and it worked perfectly!

What’s the secret to good french toast?

Brown sugar! I don’t know why other bloggers don’t use this but that’s my secret. It gives your french toast that little extra sweetness.

What milk should I use for Vegan French Toast?

You can use any plant based milk of your choice for this recipe but I recommend oat milk because oat milk has a thicker consistency that other plant based milks. If you also want sweeter french toast use 3/4 cups plant based milk and 1/4 cups plant based creamer, I love to use a sweet vanilla cream or hazelnut.

Should I use ground or whole flaxseeds and where can I find them in the grocery store?

Ground Flaxseeds is what you need. You can buy whole but you’ll have to manually grind them yourself, so make sure you grab the ground flaxseed meal and save yourself some time. You can find them typically in the baking aisle or health aisle of the grocery store. I use the Bob’s Red Mill brand.

What Vegan Butter should I use?

I prefer to use Earth Balance, because it’s typically the easiest brand to find, or I also use the Almond Oil Plant Based Butter from Country Crock.
